Honeymoon Sri Lanka – romantic tailor-made tour
Sri Lanka is an island where romance blossoms naturally. Misty tea mountains in the interior, tropical beaches along the Indian Ocean, and ancient temples hidden amidst the jungle make it a special destination for a honeymoon or anniversary trip. Here, tranquility, adventure, and culture alternate effortlessly.
A honeymoon to Sri Lanka doesn't have to be standard. Some couples opt for a romantic tour with safaris, train journeys through the highlands, and charming coastal towns. Others seek tranquility: small-scale locations surrounded by nature, long walks on the beach, and quiet evenings together under the tropical starry sky.
At Lankara Island Travels, we design every honeymoon with care and a personal touch. We listen to your travel wishes first, and then build an itinerary that suits your pace. Whether you dream of a romantic tour of Sri Lanka focusing on nature and culture, or a relaxed trip with more beach and privacy, everything is tailored to your preferences.
The sample itinerary on this page shows how a honeymoon in Sri Lanka can unfold. This trip can be built starting from approximately 12 days and extended to 14, 16, or even more days. This creates a honeymoon that is not only romantic but also truly suits you.
Daily program
Day 1: Arrival & first evening under palm trees
Upon arrival at the airport, you will be personally met. The first drive takes you past coconut palms towards the coast, where the air feels soft and warm.
No busy schedule today. Time to settle in, spend some time together, and experience the first sunset over the Indian Ocean.
In the evening, you enjoy a quiet dinner with a view of the sea. The trip begins in a relaxed manner, exactly as a honeymoon should begin.
Day 2: Sea, peace and space
The morning starts slowly. Breakfast outdoors, perhaps a walk along the beach or a dip in the pool.
Anyone who wishes can take a short boat trip or explore a lagoon. But nothing is mandatory. This day is about being together and acclimatizing.
Day 3: To the interior
The landscape changes as soon as we drive inland. Palm trees give way to rice fields and villages where daily life takes place outdoors.
Along the way, we stop at a local village where you will experience the rhythm of the countryside. No show, but genuine encounters.
In the afternoon, you arrive in the green hilly region.
Day 4: Sigiriya at sunrise
In the early morning, you climb the iconic rock of Sigiriya. As the sun slowly rises over the jungle, a moment unfolds that you will not soon forget.
A panoramic view awaits at the top. Below, you see water reservoirs and forests that were planted centuries ago.
Later in the day, you will visit a quiet village where a local family demonstrates how traditional dishes are prepared. Cooking, tasting, and learning about spices together makes this experience personal and warm.
Day 5: Temples and herb gardens
Today you continue your journey towards Kandy. Along the way, you visit an ancient temple complex carved into a rock face, where silence arises naturally.
In a herb garden, you will learn about cinnamon, nutmeg, and medicinal plants used in Ayurveda. Kandy is situated in a green valley and feels more intimate than the larger cities.
Day 6: Kandy & cultural enrichment
In the morning, you will visit the Temple of the Tooth, one of the holiest places in the country. The ceremony with drumming and flower offerings is a special experience to share.
The rest of the day is free. Stroll along the lake, visit the market, or enjoy a quiet afternoon together.
In the evening, you attend a traditional dance performance, where music and movement tell the story of Sri Lanka.
Day 7: The train through the highlands
Today you travel to the tea mountains. You will cover part of the route by train. The track winds past hills full of tea plantations, waterfalls, and small villages.
This is not a fast connection, but an experience. Windows open, fresh mountain air, and endless green views. In the afternoon, you arrive in a higher region where the climate is cooler and quieter.
Day 8: Walks and mountain landscape
The morning is free for a walk along viewpoints or a visit to a tea factory where you will see how the famous Ceylon tea is produced.
The rest of the day is dedicated to relaxation. Maybe a massage, maybe just a book with a view of the hills.
Day 9: To the wildlife of Yala
We are descending towards the south. The landscape becomes drier and rugged.
In the afternoon, you will get ready for a safari in Yala National Park. In a comfortable jeep, you will drive through open plains where elephants, deer, and with a bit of luck, a leopard can be seen.
Spotting a wild animal together in silence creates a different kind of connection.
Day 10: Beach on the south coast
After adventure comes rest. The south coast of Sri Lanka offers wide beaches and calm bays. Here you can swim, snorkel, or simply enjoy the sun together.
Day 11: Colonial Galle
A short drive takes you to the historic Fort of Galle. Narrow streets, colonial facades, and sea views make this a charming stopover.
In the afternoon, you return to the beach for further relaxation.
Day 12: Free day or surfing
For those who want to be active, we can organize surf lessons on the south coast. Beginners receive personal guidance.
Prefer diving? That is also possible in clear tropical water. Or simply opt for a quiet beach day without a plan.
Day 13: Back to Colombo
On the last day, you drive back to Colombo. The city combines modern life with colonial influences. A final dinner together concludes the trip in style.
Day 14: Departure
Depending on the flight time, you will be taken to the airport. The room will remain available until departure, so that you can say goodbye to the island in a relaxed manner.
