Frequently Asked Questions
Is a boarding call without obligation?
Yes, it is an introduction with no obligations.
How much does a tailor-made trip cost?
That depends on the duration of the trip, the level of comfort, and your preferences. We discuss this openly and transparently.
How quickly will I receive a response?
You will receive a personal message within 24 hours.
Do you only work with Sri Lanka?
Sri Lanka is our specialization. In addition, we design trips to Indonesia.
What if I don't have a concrete plan yet?
No problem. Together, we will clarify what suits you.
Which languages are spoken in Sri Lanka?
The three main languages in Sri Lanka are: Sinhala - Tamil - English
English is widely spoken in hotels, within the tourism sector, and in urban areas. As a result, communication generally runs smoothly for international travelers.
Fun fact: Sri Lanka was once a Dutch colony. You sometimes still come across Dutch influences in surnames or old words. You can read more about this on our travel tips page.
Do I need a visa for Sri Lanka or Indonesia?
Yes, a visa is required for both Sri Lanka and Indonesia in most cases. Fortunately, the application process is straightforward and easy to arrange.
Sri Lanka: For Sri Lanka, you can apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) in advance. In some cases, it is also possible to obtain a visa upon arrival (Visa on Arrival). We usually advise applying for the visa online in advance so that the formalities proceed more quickly upon arrival.
Indonesia: For Indonesia, a Visa on Arrival is available for many nationalities upon arrival at the airport. Depending on the duration of your trip, it may also be necessary or advisable to arrange the visa online in advance.
While planning your trip, we guide you step by step through the visa process and ensure that you depart well-prepared.
You are not alone.
What is the best time to travel to Sri Lanka?
Sri Lanka has two monsoon seasons that affect different parts of the island.
- The Maha monsoon (October to January) primarily affects the north and east.
- The Yala monsoon (May to August) primarily affects the south and west.
Thanks to this unique climate, there is actually a region that is ideal to visit all year round:
- The west and south coasts are best between December and March.
- The east coast is ideal between May and September.
During the Boarding Call, we are happy to advise you on the best regions based on your travel period.
What should I wear in Sri Lanka and Indonesia?
Both Sri Lanka and Indonesia have a tropical climate. Light, airy, and comfortable clothing is therefore most suitable. Think of breathable fabrics such as cotton or linen. Appropriate clothing is important when visiting religious sites such as temples, kovils, mosques, and churches. This means:
- Shoulders and knees covered
- No deep necklines or short shorts
- Remove head coverings upon entering holy places
- Remove shoes where requested
Respect for local culture and traditions is greatly appreciated. Those who travel with respect are often received with openness and warmth, which makes your trip all the richer. If you are traveling to higher altitudes such as the central highlands of Sri Lanka or mountain regions in Indonesia, bring a cardigan or light jacket. It can be cooler there in the evenings. In more upscale hotels and restaurants, a smart casual dress code often applies in the evenings.
What about mobile coverage and internet?
In both Sri Lanka and Indonesia, mobile coverage is generally good, especially in cities and along major travel routes.
During the Boarding Call and travel preparations, we advise you on the best and most practical internet options so that you can stay connected without any worries.
As we often say, "Lankara has your back, even on the road".
